When it comes to product photography, you truly never know what you might be seeing on our timeline next. One week you’ll catch us shooting top tier Wagyu steaks in the Indiana countryside, the next it’s capturing sustainable glass packaging for a global brand supplier. This time, courtesy of our wonderful editor Suzi Williams and Steve Kern from CS Kern, we spent the day with global climate innovator, Farrar Scientific.
Trusted by over 30 pharmacuetical manufacturers, Farrar specializes in creating ultra-low and low temperature freezing and storage solutions for medicines, vaccines and other life science products. Powered by Trane Technologies, Farrar Scientific boasts 3 locations worldwide, with their manufacturing headquarters nestled in none other than Noblesville, Indiana.
We felt so honored to be part of such a complex product shoot, which, as always, had it’s own challenges to navigate and we were ready for it! We set up an on-site preparation day the day prior to shooting, so we felt comfortable to jump right in and make the most of shoot day. Our prep day allowed us to see the products in the space we would be working, understand the controllable (and uncontrollable) light, visualize the angles we would be able to work from, and grasp how many individuals we may need to help move the large systems around as needed.
Never underestimate the need for a prep day! It can ease your mind and allow your shoot day to go as smoothly as possible, for all involved. Putting all our tricks and tools to the test made our work day productive and enjoyable. The state of the art bio-medical cooling and freezing systems presented some additional obstacles, as some had stainless steel doors, while others had glass fronts. This presented reflections in many shots. More so, some of the products were prototypes, which meant they were not all completely functioning. This is when you are grateful for an amazing editor, as well as a great client.
We happily wrapped up a great day and then passed off the files to Suzi and the magic came through! Any defects in the product were corrected and the Farrar team provided us with graphic files to lay in the screens of the photos with the prototype equipment.
Nothing beats multiple teams working together on a challenging project and seeing the end result. A successful and fun day brought us images that we couldn’t be more happy with. Thank you to all involved. Can’t wait for the next project!
