Working with the group at Pivot Marketing for Curran Architecture is always such a pleasure. At this point, you might be sensing that the Studio 13 team enjoys working on Pivot and Curran projects, since we post about them with some regularity! This project was particularly exciting because it entailed traveling up to Whiting, Indiana to capture some images of the new Illiana Building.
The town of Whiting is the home of Calumet College of St. Joseph, and the Illiana is a mixed-use apartment complex designed with both students and the city in mind. The building is located a short distance from campus, and is priced to be affordable for student tenants. The first floor has space where restaurants, stores, and other retailers can conveniently set up shop. As a result, students will be driving less while in town, have quick access to shopping, and can live in affordable accommodations with all the amenities needed to live comfortably during the school year.
Our role in the project was singularly focused on exteriors of the building. When completing a project with such an amazing location as this one, showing the Illiana’s relationship with the quant downtown environment of Whiting was essential. Besides what’s contained within the building itself, the Illiana has great walkability to retail, dining and entertainment. The exterior of the building is a beautiful addition to the architecture, and besides being located close to the nearby university, it is also just a short drive away from Lake Michigan. Staging dynamic exterior architecture shots requires a lot of focus on composition and lighting, but the results are always satisfying!
We at Studio 13 are so grateful to clients like Curran for continuing to contract with us for such a wide variety of photography projects.
